February 19, 2025 | 09:52PM | RKE 28mm

This week, I picked up a second RKE 28mm eyepiece from Edmund Optics for my bino-viewer, and I couldn't be happier with the decision. This eyepiece has always been a favorite of mine, and using a matched pair takes the bino-viewer experience to a whole new level.

The "window in space" illusion is truly mesmerizing when viewed through both eyes, creating an incredibly immersive effect. If you appreciate this optical phenomenon, I highly recommend getting a second one for your bino-viewer it's well worth it!

My Bino-Viewer eyepiece setup includes a 28mm for "wide-field" views, along with 13mm and 9mm Tele-Vues for planetary and detailed close-up observations.

I also have pairs of 40mm and 32mm Tele Vue Plossls, but in my light-polluted skies, they don't perform as well. The 28mm, however, seems to hit the sweet spot.

I don't use the zoom lens as much these days since I prefer the eye relief on the Tele-Vues, but it's still nice to have as an option when I don't feel like dealing with multiple eyepieces.
