After messing with planets for the past few months I've been yearning to get the 61mm out and do some deepsky imaging. Luckily, this Sunday was a pretty nice night to take the scope out before the two storms hit my area later in the week.
Last time I was taking deep sky images I had just begun to experiment with guiding so I was worried I would have to spend most of the night re-learning the process but Luckily everything worked great out of the box when I plugged everything in and I was up and running within minutes after my polar alignment.
This night was dedicated to Barnard 33 (The Horsehead Nebula). This has been one of my favorite targets to image ever since I got a UHC filter and was amazed I could actually see it from my driveway but I have never gotten a great shot of it until last night.
Once I had guiding setup and centered the target I let the scope run for about an hour. With guiding in place I was able to take 5 minute exposures with no issues. I didn't have the patience that night for anything longer. Here is the result.
Barnard 33 (Horsehead Nebula) - March 09, 2025
I am excited to see what longer integration times will bring to this image, but alas the clouds are rolling in so I may have to wait a week or two to explore.
